Murray MacKay Bridge, now in its 54th year but still known as “the new bridge,” will be closed for three weekends in June and one in July to allow for maintenance and inspections.Friday, June 14 at 7 p.m. to Monday, June 17 at 5:30 a.m.Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m. to Monday, July 8 at 5:30 a.m.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and heavier than usual traffic on the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and are advised to plan alternate routes, use buses or ferries, walk or cycle the crossing or avoid peak travel hours. The 69-year-old bridge, meanwhile, will have a full weekend closure — scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. to Monday, Aug. 19 at 5:30 a.m. — and also shut down for the following single-day events:MACPASS Miles road races and Bridgewalk 2024, Sunday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.

“We understand traffic disruptions occur any time we close a bridge — or even close a lane — so we only take these measures when there is no other way to do the work safely and efficiently,” stated Halifax Harbour Bridges CEO Tony Wright. “However, as our bridges age, more maintenance is needed to help extend the service life of these structures. Closures are inevitable.”
