Scott Ian MacKay serving life sentence for murder of Greater Victoria’s Marguerite Telesford
A man serving a life sentence for murdering a University of Victoria student in 1987 has been granted day parole and will be residing in Vancouver, police announced Thursday .
Scott Ian MacKay, 61, was convicted of killing 20-year-old Marguerite Telesford in 1989 and has been serving out his sentence in a Fraser Valley prison since then. Last month, after decades of requests, MacKay was granted day parole.The police department says MacKay poses a significant risk to women in the community, including to sex workers. Beyond his second-degree murder conviction, MacKay was also found guilty of sexual assault and forcible confinement.
