CLEVELAND, Ohio — Emmanuel Clase and Andrés Giménez were elite on the diamond for the Guardians in 2022, and now both have been recognized among the best in baseball for their performances with All-MLB honors as determined by a fan vote and media panel.
Clase, a heavy favorite to win the Mariano Rivera Reliever of the Year Award in the American League tomorrow, was selected as one of two relievers on the All-MLB first team along with Edwin Diaz of the Mets. He joins Shane Bieber as the only Cleveland players named to the All-MLB first team since the award originated in 2019.
Both Clase and Giménez were named to the All-Star Game for the first time in their careers in July. Clase earned the save in a 3-2 AL victory, and Giménez turned in the defensive play of the game when he started double play in the first inning with a behind-the-back flip to Tim Anderson. He delivered the first 40-save season by a Cleveland reliever since Joe Borowski in 2007.
Giménez, who finished sixth in AL Most Valuable Player voting, appears on the second team opposite shortstop Francisco Lindor, for whom he was traded in the 2021 offseason.
