But some boards are already planning closures later in the week if a walkout by CUPE workers persists
School boards operating in the Greater Sudbury area say their schools will remain open Monday if there’s a walkout by education workers, although some boards are already planning closures if the strike persists.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees said 55,000 of its workers will walk off en masse on Monday if a deal with the province isn't reached by 5 p.m. on Sunday, a deadline the government also agreed to. It would be the second time that CUPE workers, which include education assistants, early childhood educators and custodians, go on strike this month.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce has said the government has put forward multiple improved offers and has not asked for any concessions.Rainbow District School Board The Rainbow board said in a notice to guardians and parents that, “based on the information we have at this time,” its schools will remain open on Monday. “Please be assured that we are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information as it becomes available,” the notice said.
