earlier this year. However, Hemisfair is still $4.6 million short on the funds it needs for Civic Park, said Anne Krause, executive director of the Hemisfair Conservancy. The group has some philanthropic interest and is coming up with creative ways to raise money. For example, residents can sponsor a tree in exchange for a tribute page honoring a loved one or marketing a business.

The main footprint of Civic Park is expected to be open to the public by September next year. Other pieces of the Hemisfair project, and a second phase scheduled to go out to bid soon, should be completed by 2025 — in time for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four.Hans Hassenflu, 1, is picked up by his mother Jaca Hassenflu of Boerne as he plays in the Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair Park in San Antonio on Jan. 26.The water in the springs will start north and flow south.

About 480,000 gallons of water are required for the springs, Hull said. They’re not planning to tap into the city’s drinking water supply at all, though.Groundwater underneath the neighboring convention center at Hemisfair is currently drained and treated with San Antonio’s stormwater, Hull said. It will be filtered and irrigate the park to keep grass green.
