Fire Chief Bruce Burrell says there could be front-line layoffs if his department is forced to absorb another round of budget cuts.

During the 2013 floods of southern Alberta, which forced thousands of Calgarians from their homes, Burrell acted as director of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency . Council recognized his efforts following the floods.In June 2013, a massive storm dumped record amounts of rain on southern Alberta, leading to devastating flooding in Calgary and nearby communities. "His capacity for recall was phenomenal," Sampson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
