Ariella Kimmel alleges she was subjected to \u0022a poisoned work environment,\u0022 and senior staffers spread rumours that contributed to her losing her job.
Kimmel worked as the chief of staff to the minister of jobs, economy and innovation from August 2020 until she was fired in February 2021. Before that, she worked for the government on a contract basis beginning in May 2019.The lawsuit is seeking more than $199,000 for breach of contract to make up for lost salary, and an additional $200,000 in damages.Article content
“Mr. Bernardo looked at the female’s body and told her, ‘I haven’t seen you on this floor before because with a body like that, I would have noticed you,'” the statement alleges, adding the staffer was very upset by the humiliating and sexually degrading comment.The document alleges that while numerous ministers knew about the complaints, which were also taken to several staff at the premier’s office, the premier’s office did not take action.
“Sexual harassment is completely unacceptable and disgusting,” she said, adding that after the meeting, she spoke with Government House Leader Jason Nixon. She added that she could not comment on the specifics of confidential human resource matters, but the decision to end Kimmel’s employment was not related to the matters contained in the statement of claim.
