Urgent warning for those planning on visiting the South American country

The Foreign Office has issued an urgent warning to British holidaymakers, advising them to "avoid going" to certain areas in Bolivia due to a large political protest. The updated travel advice comes as a result of a demonstration in La Paz which is expected to cause significant disruption.

The Foreign Office stated: "There is a large political protest in the centre of La Paz which is likely to cause widespread disruption for several days. The protest will hinder transport around the city and may turn violent. "Avoid going into the centre of the city near Plaza Murillo, and the area of Sopocachi near the Plaza Avaroa. Do not go near protests or roadblocks and avoid government buildings." This warning comes as followers of Evo Morales organise a march into La Paz to protest against a court ruling that bans their leader from seeking another term in office. Bolivia's ruling party, Movement Towards Socialism , confirmed on Friday that Government Minister Eduardo del Castillo would run for presidency in August, with Milán Berna as his running mate, reports Birmingham Live. "We have here our brother Eduardo del Castillo, and we have Milán Berna, the only candidates that, with strength, are going to deepen democracy," said MAS Chairman Grover García. "Thousands of sisters and brothers who were making a peaceful demonstration - demanding respect for democratic rights - were brutally repressed by hundreds of police officers of the current government," Morales posted on Facebook. Morales had been anticipated to join in the march to enrol for his presidential run, but he later reversed his decision. "We ask international organizations for a visit to Bolivia to investigate the State Terrorism that is lived with human rights violations, undue detentions, such as that of our brother, National Executive of the , Ponciano Santos," he expressed in addition. For those planning trips abroad, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office supplies travel advice to help travellers make well-informed choices regarding their safety.
