He said the amendments only banned “assault style firearms, not hunting rifles” — even though the proposed ban list included some of Canada’s most popular hunting arms, as well as many firearms. He claimed the ban would only “go after those AR-15-style firearms that were used in the likes of ” — seemingly oblivious to the fact that the ban list included dozens of single-shot or break-action rifles that had never once featured in a mass shooting.
