Arson is part of any major wildfire season, but the evidence suggests that most of these fires are likely being sparked by lightning

The right-wing outlet The Rebel also zeroed in on three Nova Scotia arson charges, which the outlet credited with helping to the spark wildfires that have thus far prompted the evacuation of more than 18,000 people. Only after contacting the RCMP did The Rebel issue a correction reading “the alleged arsons initially reported as causing three wildfires in Nova Scotia were contained before they started wildfires.

The reason is simple: Human-caused fires usually crop up in parks or along highways where they’re easier to put out. Lightning-caused fires not only happen in clusters, but they can occur in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest settlement or roadway.Article content “We’re seeing more and more of these fires because of climate change … We’ll keep working — here at home and with partners around the world — to tackle climate change and address its impacts,” reads one recent statement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
