Finns cast ballots on Sunday in a closely contested parliamentary election that could cost left\u002Dwing Prime Minister Sanna Marin power.

“If you want an open, pluralistic and just Finland, Finland that invests in education and takes care of people’s every day services, vote for the SDP,” Marin appealed to voters on a video she posted on Twitter on Sunday.

The grouping accuses Marin of eroding Finland’s economic resilience at a time when Europe’s energy crisis, driven by Russia’s war in Ukraine, has hit the country hard and the cost of living has increased. “I hope that the prime minister will change,” communications specialist Susanna Isohanni said while voting at the Helsinki Art Museum. “But the current government has handled certain things just fine. For example, the corona situation. I would give it quite commendable, like seven and a half out of ten.”The next government will see the early days of Finland’s membership of NATO.
