People are being advised to stay at home when temperatures soar, with the RAC also issuing a warning amidThe decision to go to Level 4 is made by the government and coordinated by the Civil Contingencies Secretariat – a department within the Cabinet Office responsible for planning for emergencies.
During a Level 4 alert, illness and death may occur among the fit and healthy, and not just in high-risk groups. The people most at risk during any heatwave are high risk individuals such as the elderly, babies, young children and those who are physically or mentally unwell and suffer from serious or long term illnesses.
