With the Ottawa Redblacks bogged down by a seven\u002Dgame losing streak, tempers boiled over with a fight at practice Wednesday.

“It was a young guy who doesn’t necessarily know the pace of a Day 3 and he’s practising at a little higher pace,” said Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce. “Guys talk and sometimes say things they probably don’t mean. They’re grown men. Things escalated a bit … then it ended.”

“I don’t like it,” said Dyce. “It’s no different than being in a game. The league is cracking on after-whistle stuff. You have to maintain your composure and focus on what’s really important; for us, that’s getting a win. It’d be an awful thing to see one of our players get injured in a skirmish like that. That’s what agitates me.”

“Whenever you get out here, it’s a bunch of guys who are working and trying to get better. Things can get chippy,” said quarterback Dustin Crum, who was a bystander. “Honestly, I don’t really know what happened. I just turned around and it was already going.”Article content
