This initiative aims to alleviate the strain on emergency rooms and reduce wait times at hospitals. Current research shows a strong correlation between readily available urgent care centres and decreased ER visits for non-critical cases.The minister assures the public that each centre will be publicly funded and operated by Alberta Health Services, with the exception of the one in Airdrie, which will be managed by a private contractor. LaGrange states that the locations for these new centres were carefully selected based on hospital demand and projected population growth. The government hopes that these additions will significantly improve healthcare accessibility for Albertans, particularly in areas where access is currently limited.
