The jump in vacancies at the University of Calgary comes during a year when 16 more family medicine residency seats were added.Alberta doctors sound alarm over low number of grads seeking residency in province Dr. Pauwlina Cyca is the president of the Professional Association of Resident Physicians of Alberta.
"Even though the numbers are fewer, the quality of the applicants in terms of their engagement and the drive to be part of family medicine, from my assessment, seems way higher than previously."Cyca believes it will take time for those changes to play out in the match numbers. In a statement, the health minister's office called concerns about unfilled seats "exaggerated and distorted."
