Family whose motorcycle rides have raised at least $750,000 for Sick Kids and the Children’s Miracle Network hoping latest journey will help them hit the $1-million mark
Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and other children’s hospitalsAlyssa Rae was born with omphalocele, a rare birth defect that occurs when bowel, liver and other organs remain outside the body in a sac. She lived for just 20 days and died on Nov. 17, 1998, at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.
The couple had two more children – Holly and Jocelyn – and both have grown up knowing about their older sister through photographs and other keepsakes. That was just the start. In 2016, Mr. Johnson and his daughter completed a ride across Canada and in 2018 they spent six months travelling from the Canadian Arctic to the bottom of Argentina. By the time they finished they had raised $750,000 in total for Sick Kids and the Children’s Miracle Network, a group of more than 100 hospitals.
