Laura Adkin has added feature film writer and director to her resume with Re: Uniting.

However the fear abated as Adkin found her footing.

Writer/director Laura Adkin looks at a shot with cinematographer Stirling Bancroft as actor Carmen Moore looks on. The trio were shooting the film Re: Uniting on Bowen Island in June 2021.The film focuses on a group of six friends that reunite for a 25th college anniversary weekend.Adkin rediscovered the Lawrence Kasdan-directed film at a 30th anniversary celebration screening of it at TIFF in 2013.

The film was shot over 15 days this spring. What could have a been a frantic experience was made a lot easier by shooting in the familiar surroundings of Bowen Island, which happens to be home to Adkin’s mom and where Adkin, Lewis and their cat rode out part of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also home to one of film’s stars, Michelle Harrison.Article content

Like the location, the cast, which included Lewis, was very familiar to Adkin. In fact she wrote characters specifically for them.Article content Now two decades later and Adkin cast Harrison in the pivotal role of Rachel. who along with her partner Michael host four of their old college friends for a weekend reunion.Article content
