It would have been a merciful end to an Edmonton Elks season that started uglier than any other in club history — if it was, in fact, the end.
Most Outstanding Player favourite Chad Kelly completed 11 of 16 for 165 yards in one of his more pedestrian outings of the season. But that’s all that was required of the Toronto quarterback, as his defence forced two turnovers, including an interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Wynton McManis that broke this one wide open late in the third quarter.
But C.J. Sims allowed the ensuing punt to bounce, hoping it would reach the end zone. Instead, the Elks took over at their two yard-line. A 28-yard field goal by Dean Faithfull that was sandwiched by two-and-outs by the Argos offence, had the Elks trailing 10-4 in the second quarter.
