‘She was so excited’: Bill Gendron and his wife photographed the uncommon creature strolling through their property on Wednesday
Bill Gendron and his wife Rose Mary have seen all sorts of wildlife venture through their backyard over the years, but nothing like this.
The one the Gendrons snapped photos of yesterday did not appear to be fully grown, and they couldn’t tell if it was a male or female. The last time either of them had spotted a cougar was 30 years ago when Rose Mary was heading to work early in the morning. Bill had never seen one before. In April 2023, SooToday reader Brian O’Shaughnessy submitted a photo of what appeared to be a cougar in Goulais River. Another cougar sighting was reported in Sault Michigan the year prior.
Lindsay Davidson, a spokesperson for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, said at the time that cougar sightings are extremely rare.
