These reforms, which aim to control the rising costs of PIP, could see beneficiaries getting vouchers, grants, or access to shopping catalogues rather than the usual cash payments, which can amount to as much as £737 a month.The DWP has commented on the need for a sustainable and equitable system, stating: "We need to ensure we have a system that is sustainable and fair for all.
Currently, around 3.5 million people receive PIP, with 2.6 million of them being of working age. The DWP handles approximately 33,000 new PIP applications each month, a figure that has seen a significant increase since before the pandemic, reports WalesOnline. The benefit consists of two parts, each with its own standard and enhanced rate. Individuals may be eligible for one or both components, resulting in eight possible PIP combinations. Below are the details:.Enhanced: £108.55 a week PIP awards are based on a weekly payment rate but are paid out every four weeks. So in months that span five weeks you could get one PIP payment in your account at the start of the month and another at the end of the same month.Payment rate: £72.
