Overall building activity remains down in 2023 from the past two years.
There were 23 building permits worth a combined $6.3 million issued by the City of Prince George by the end of August of this year for new duplexes. That’s more than the previous two years combined, when five permits worth $2.5 million for the same time period were issued in 2022 and seven permits worth $3 million were issued in 2021.
In August alone, the city issued three permit worth $1 million for new duplexes, compared to none during the previous two Augusts. Single-family home construction has slowed down from past years, with 44 permits worth $22.7 million, as of the end of August 2023, compared to 65 permits worth $36.5 million for the same time period in 2022 and 73 permits worth $38.5 million for January through August of 2021.There were also seven commercial building alteration permits issued, worth a combined $2 million.
There were a total 49 building and development permits worth a combined $9.8 million issued in August. By the end of August of this year, the city had issued a total 269 permits worth $91 million. By the same time in 2022, the city had issued 329 permits worth $187.2 million and January-August 2021, the city had issued 332 permits worth $144.5 million.
