Prince George Fire Rescue responded to call at 2:27 a.m. Thursday
Prince George Fire Rescue responded to the call at 2:27 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.
"On arrival, crews found a fully-involved mobile home with an addition on it and after we suppressed the fire we were able to conduct primary search and found the lone occupant," said PGFR deputy chief Bryan Burleigh. Based on the tie the fire broke out, Burleigh said the victim was likely in a bedroom area of the residence.
"The building had self-collapsed, so it wasn't that we entered a structure, it was a pile of rubble really," said Burleigh. "It was well out of our control on arrival and we did our part to mitigate and minimize the loss and unfortunately it didn't work out for the occupant." Sixteen firefighters from three halls responded to the call and were still on the scene dousing hot spots at 9:30 a.m.The cause of the fire remains unknown while the investigation continues. This is the first fire fatality in Prince George since March 2022, when a fire at seniors complex in the 6900 block of Dagg Road claimed a life.
