The Greater Toronto Area needs to prepare for dangerous blizzard conditions set to start Friday evening.

“Drivers are being urged to avoid travel Friday night as intense snowfall rates of up to 6 cm per hour could make for treacherous conditions across southern Ontario,” says Environment and Climate Change Canada , which issued a winter storm warning for southern Ontario. “It’s the calm before the storm across southern Ontario, with conditions set to take a dangerous turn for the worse through Friday evening.
The Texas low responsible for this storm will head toward the Great Lakes on Friday, pushing heavy precipitation into southern Ontario during the evening.Any errands should be done early Friday as conditions will turn serious by about 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. That’s when snowfall rates of up to 6 centimeters per hour will create extremely hazardous travel conditions.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” ECCC says. “Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.”
