Toronto rap superstar and Raptors global ambassador Drake took to Instagram to call for a WNBA expansion team in the city.
TORONTO -- Toronto rap superstar Drake wants to see a professional women's basketball team in his city.
In 2019, the Raptors brought home the NBA championship for the first time in franchise history. Sports expert Kevin Yeung, who is a content creator with TSN’s BarDown, says the strong appetite for basketball north of the border makes Toronto a strong contender to be an expansion city for the WNBA. Yeung also said that in recent years, there's been a wave of exciting young Canadians players making waves in both the NBA and the WNBA, such as Jamal Murray and Kia Nurse.
"I think from a marketing perspective, it's absolutely something that the WNBA would want to tap into."
