The long-standing feud between rap titans Kendrick Lamar and Drake escalated this week as Drake's company filed legal petitions against Universal Music Group (UMG), accusing them of a 'pay-to-play' scheme involving radio station iHeartRadio. Drake also claims UMG was aware of defamatory lyrics in Lamar's song accusing him of deviant sexual behavior but released it anyway.
Rapper Kendrick Lamar appears at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2017, in Inglewood, Calif., left, and rapper Drake appears at the premiere of the series Euphoria in Los Angeles in 2019.
“The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.
