A US doctor who carried out an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim in Indiana has threatened legal action against the state’s attorney general, claiming he made “defamatory” comments about her in a high-profile case regarding abortion rights in America.
reported that it had obtained documents through a public records request, which shows that Dr Bernard had, indeed, met the disclosure requirements in a form she filed with the Indiana Department of Health and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
The letter states that Mr Rokita called Dr Bernard “an abortion activist acting as a doctor with a history of failing to report. We’re gathering the evidence as we speak, and we’re going to fight this to the end, including looking at her licensure”. It adds: “Thus, Mr. Rokita’s statements that Dr. Bernard was an ‘abortion activist acting as a doctor’ with a ‘history of failing to report’ were false.
