A delivery driver was arrested for driving while prohibited and the delivery van has been impounded as a result, Saanich Police says.
A delivery driver was arrested this week for driving while prohibited and the delivery company had its van impounded as a result, according to Saanich Police.The 40-year-old delivery driver had recently been caught driving impaired, and was prohibited from driving for 90 days, Saanich Police says.
His vehicle at the time he was caught driving impaired was impounded, and now the delivery van was impounded as well. However, Saanich Police says the delivery company was allowed to retrieve the packages from the vehicle before it was impounded for seven days. “This arrest sends a strong message to those on our roads,” Staff Sgt. Doug Cripps, head of the Traffic Safety Unit at Saanich Police said in a news release.
“Driving is a privilege. If you are caught driving impaired, you will lose that privilege, and you must earn it back. There are no shortcuts.”Penalties for being caught driving impaired range from driving suspensions between 24 hours to 90 days, vehicle impoundment, fines from $600 to $4,060, jail time, mandatory rehabilitation and installation of an ignition interlock device.
