Securing a new funding formula for municipalities was a central plank in Mayor McDougall-Merrill’s campaign program back in 2020. What happened?
What of local government MLAs? Aside from touting a municipal charter as akin to finding the Holy Grail, do any think the bill is in this municipality’s best interests? If yes, explain why; if no, what did they try to do to change it?The matter of funding shortfalls and uncertainties did not occur overnight. Nor will it be effectively dealt with overnight. CBRM council, over the past 20 years, under three mayors, has failed to effectively take on this issue.
