The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) has acquired the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre at Mount Washington Ski Resort. This purchase, funded by Community Works and Growing Communities programs, aims to improve emergency response times by constructing new fire response truck bays. The move signifies a major step forward in providing dedicated fire services to the community, with plans for a new fire hall to be built next to the center.

“It’s very good news. It’s moving us closer to what we need to have up there,” he told CHEK News on Monday. Green said it will also allow crews from Oyster River to be able to stay up at Mount Washington in times of need.“The purchase of the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre and plans for truck bays signifies a great step forward in providing the necessary emergency response to the residents and visitors of Mount Washington. Thank you to the community and our numerous partners for your patience and commitment in making this firehall a reality,” said Edwin Grieve, CVRD Electoral Area C director.
