Ever since, there's been a steady buildup in heat-trapping greenhouse gases in the Earth's thin atmosphere.
Already, as rainfall patterns falter, we hear of famine in subtropical Africa, of mass protests in India, of revolution in South America. And if this is happening abroad, can we be far behind? “But,” you may say, “I live in a highrise and haven't room.” Yet highrise New Yorkers have been cultivating rooftop gardens for decades. And their low-rise neighbours, not to be outdone, have been renting small plots on the city's outskirts to do the same. Indeed,The fact is, even a window-box, outer or inner, can grow enough lettuce, radish and spinach to keep an average-sized family in salad greens year-round. And if you own a lawn, you're all set.
