A regional assessment process currently underway in Nova Scotia is a cog in the wheel towards the development of offshore wind power in the province.is hosting a series of public open house sessions in 10 communities that are focusing on providing information about the regional assessment process and gathering feedback from stakeholders on potential future licencing locations for offshore wind in the study area.

Vascotto says through his work and conversations with other fishing industry stakeholders, “I came to realize that a very few people realize this is going on, what this work might actually be. We’re in the middle of a giant regulatory process that could see your area put up for potential wind power development. You’ve got a harvesting community out there that knows very little about the process.”for Oct. 23 at the Digby Pines; Oct. 25 at the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth, and on Oct.

“We know that climate change is happening so anything we can do to help that out is a good thing. But we can’t do it at the expense of low-carbon proteins, which seafood is. If we knock seafood off the map, we’re kind of hitting ourselves in the foot,” Vascotto says. The main purpose of a regional assessment is to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of future impact assessments of projects that are subject to the Impact Assessment Act.
