A Port McNeill woman captured a remarkable sight on camera over the weekend, recording her encounter with a cougar on a beach. Tina Scott shared that the cougar was observed strolling along a beach in the North Island town before settling in comfortably between some logs. According to Scott, the large cat was not engaging in any harmful behavior and posed no threat to anyone. However, the neighborhood was made aware of the cougar's presence as a precautionary measure.

The BC Conservation Officer Service and local RCMP officers responded to the situation to assess the circumstances. However, the cougar ultimately made its way off the beach without incident. The province estimates that there are approximately 5,000 cougars residing in British Columbia, with Vancouver Island boasting the highest concentration of these animals at around 800
