She also joined a long list of writers recently who penned a letter published by Harper’s in which the signatories worried about the free exchange of ideas in American society. Her opinions and sharp wit has even landed her TV interviews on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher and The View. Acting editorial page editor Kathleen Kingsbury said in a statement Tuesday that “we appreciate the many contributions that Bari made to Times Opinion.”

The internal drama played out on social media, and many staffers took exception with Weiss’s characterization of it as a “civil war inside The New York Times between the wokes the liberals,” noting that the criticism came from a range of staffers.
