Police released a photo of the man, and suggested parents talk to kids about how to handle stranger encounters

Comox Valley RCMP are reminding parents and other caregivers to teach children how to safely respond to strangers after an incident at Courtenay Elementary School on Tuesday.

Mounties received a report at 1:10 p.m. that a man had been seen on school property attempting to engage in conversation with young students.Police released a photo of the man that was taken as he was walking away, saying they’d like to speak with him and gather more information, said police spokesperson Const. Monika Terragni.• If approached by someone they don’t know, children should not engage in conversation.

Anyone who recognizes the person in the image provided by police or who has any information that could help in the investigation is asked to contact Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 and refer to file 2024-17022.
