Getting into college is one hurdle, but paying for it is another. In an effort to help assuage questions students might have about paying for college, Common App has created a resource to help families and students along the way.

Uncertainty: a word that characterizes this current moment in time. The developments of COVID-19, or coronavirus, have created a nebulous atmosphere through the disruption of our jobs, schools and universities, finances, and much more. These disruptions have illuminated inequities within vulnerable populations and presented leaders and organizations with real questions about the future.

As an adult, I know COVID-19 has certainly shifted my reality, and I can only imagine what this must feel like for the millions of high school seniors around the United States. The high school graduating class of 2020 is experiencing unprecedented uncertainty as they navigate remote learning and await college admissions decisions.

Typically, students receive their college admissions decisions and financial aid offer letters in the spring. While getting accepted into one’s dream school can be exhilarating, questions about cost come shortly after.Between the scholarships, grants, and loans, I didn’t know how to answer that question. I’m not sure how I deciphered the complicated financial aid documents that detailed thousands of dollars, figures so large that they felt abstract but suffocating all at the same time.
