OTTAWA — Feeling relief might have been normal, even gratitude at being free and safe, apprehension at rejoining the world.

She was testifying at Boyle’s criminal trial on 19 charges including multiple counts of sexual assault, assault, forcible confinement, threatening and criminal harassment. His wife is the alleged victim in most of the charges.If Unger and her colleague tried to speak to Coleman — even once when they weren’t, but were conversing in the general vicinity of where she was sitting — Boyle would say, “That’s long enough” and motion for Unger to go back to her seat.
His tone made it obvious “it was not to be disputed. It was a tone that told me I was going to take care of the children.” When she was discharged, the family moved into a simple hotel on the hospital grounds, Rotenberry said, and again, he left the children almost every day in Coleman’s care. “He wasn’t interacting with us really,” she said. “He was usually gone most of every day, with the media or whatever.”
