Three-time Grey Cup champion Shawn Lemon faces additional disciplinary action from the CFL for testing positive for Phentermine, an appetite suppressant. This comes on top of his ongoing indefinite suspension for betting on CFL games.

The Canadian Football League ( CFL ) has imposed an additional two-game suspension on American defensive lineman Shawn Lemon for violating the league's drug policy . Lemon is currently serving an indefinite suspension stemming from allegations of betting on CFL games, including one in which he participated. The suspension for betting on games was originally imposed in April 2024, following his retirement from the Montreal Alouettes after helping them win the 2023 Grey Cup .

Lemon's latest suspension is the result of a positive test for Phentermine, an appetite suppressant used for weight loss. The ban was issued after the league denied Lemon's appeal. Should Lemon be reinstated by the CFL and sign with another team, he will be required to serve the two-game suspension before returning to play. The CFL's initial indefinite suspension in April 2024 stemmed from allegations that Lemon bet on games while playing for the Calgary Stampeders in 2021. The league stated at the time that there was no evidence suggesting the integrity of any games was compromised by Lemon's actions and that his teammates, coaches, and staff were unaware of his betting. Lemon appealed the suspension, which allowed him to participate in Montreal's training camp and play for the team. However, in July 2024, an arbitrator upheld the CFL's indefinite suspension.Lemon, a three-time Grey Cup champion, has amassed 102 sacks across 13 seasons in the CFL. His pro career began with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a practice-roster player in 2011. He has played for every CFL team, except Hamilton, on multiple occasions. His Grey Cup victories came with Calgary (2014), Toronto (2017), and Montreal (2023). Lemon has also had stints with the NFL's San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as two Arena Football League teams and one in the Indoor Football League. Throughout his CFL career, he recorded 262 tackles, two special-teams tackles, three interceptions, 30 forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery touchdown
