Casa Mezcal, known for its lively atmosphere and Mexican cuisine, has permanently closed in Toronto. Its successor, Tulum Mexican Restaurant, will open soon, offering vibrant Mexican-Caribbean vibes, fresh flavors, and a club on the second floor.
After a brief stay in one of the city's busiest neighborhoods, a restaurant has permanently closed and will soon be replaced by a vibrant new concept. There's a certain charm in knowing that, despite Toronto already boasting a staggering number of restaurants, there's always something fresh and exciting emerging. However, this constant evolution comes with the bittersweet reality that for new ventures to take root, older establishments, some not even that old, must make way.
Casa Mezcal, a restaurant known for its lively atmosphere, Mexican cuisine, and regular dance parties, shuttered its doors in early 2025 after a relatively short four-year run on the neighborhood's 'Restaurant Row.' The closure, which came without any explanation or warning, left behind a prime piece of real estate in one of the city's most sought-after entertainment districts. But fear not, for those saddened by the loss of Casa Mezcal, as its successor, though a completely new entity from a different team, will continue the Mexican theme. While some details about the new restaurant remain under wraps, it is set to open soon under the name Tulum Mexican Restaurant. Aiming to 'bring the vibrant flavors, warmth, and spirit of Tulum to the heart of Toronto,' according to a restaurant representative, guests can anticipate vibrant, Mexican-Caribbean-inspired interiors and fresh flavors, paired with the lively ambiance of a Tulum beach club, all without the need for a passport. The restaurant will also feature a club called Playa on the second floor and a speakeasy-style bar named Cenote on the third floor. Currently in development and construction, an exact opening date hasn't been revealed. However, stay tuned for the grand arrival of this latest addition to Toronto's vibrant party scene
