Reid Carruthers and Kevin Koe win their provincial championships, securing their spots at the Tim Hortons Brier. The Brier will be held in Kelowna, British Columbia, from February 28 to March 9, with the winner representing Canada at the men's world championship.

Reid Carruthers and Kevin Koe clinched their spots at the Canadian men's curling championship, the Tim Hortons Brier, after winning their respective provincial finals on Sunday. Carruthers triumphed over Braden Calvert 9-7 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, while Koe defeated Evan Van Amsterdam 9-7 in Stettler, Alberta. These victories finalized the 18-team roster for the Brier, scheduled from February 28 to March 9 in Kelowna, British Columbia.

The champion will represent Canada at the men's world championship from March 29 to April 6 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.Other teams already secured their Brier berths include Cameron de Jong (British Columbia), Rylan Kleiter (Saskatchewan), Sam Mooiebroek (Ontario), John Epping (Northern Ontario), Tyler Smith (Prince Edward Island), Ty Di Lello (Newfoundland and Labrador), Owen Purcell (Nova Scotia), Thomas Scoffin (Yukon), Felix Asselin (Quebec), Shane Latimer (Nunavut), James Grattan (New Brunswick), and Aaron Bartling (Northwest Territories).Six-time champion Brad Gushue, hailing from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, returns as the defending champion. Brad Jacobs, Mike McEwen, and Matt Dunstone earned pre-qualification for Kelowna based on their rankings at the end of the 2023-24 season. Jacobs, a Canadian, world, and Olympic champion, joined Brendan Bottcher's Alberta-based team, ranked No. 2 in Canada last season, as their skip. Bottcher, in turn, replaced E.J. Harnden as Gushue's second in October. The Brier champion can secure a spot in the November Olympic trials if they finish in the top six at the world championship. Gushue and Jacobs are already qualified for the trials. If either Gushue or Jacobs wins the Brier, the trials berth will go to the highest-ranked team at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season after the Players' Championship in April. Carruthers will be making his 12th Brier appearance. He stole two points in the first end and scored four in the fourth, building a 6-1 lead over Calvert. Calvert responded with deuces in the fifth, seventh, and ninth ends but trailed by one coming home without the hammer. He missed a double hit with his final stone in the 10th.Four-time national and two-time world champion Koe will lead a team at the Brier for the 13th time in his career. He missed the playoffs for only the second time last year in Regina. His team scored deuces in the first, third, and fifth ends, stole a point in the sixth, and added another deuce in the ninth, leading 9-5 coming home and forcing Van Amsterdam out of rocks
