SYDNEY, N.S. — Tenants of a Sydney rental unit were ordered to vacate immediately after a fire marshal inspection on April 3 found violations of the Nova Scotia Fire Safety Act.
However, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is remaining tightlipped about the details of situations, including refusing to confirm address, property owner or date of the investigation, which the Office of the Fire Marshal also wouldn't confirm. Osasere confirmed two units of the rental were ordered to vacate but didn't say how many renters were in the units. She did say they were students and as soon as the units can be rented again, they will be offered them first.
"Subsequently, the Fire Marshal reviewed the findings and confirmed the Order to Vacate as required under the Nova Scotia Fire Safety Act. The municipal inspector, having posted the Order, is working with the building owner to address the deficiencies outlined during the inspection."
