PC party leader attends the protest in support of fishermen | SaltWire #newsupdate #newfoundlandSYDNEY, N.S. — Janet Bickerton's upcoming song release party is more about celebrating and supporting than selling copies.

"It's a chance to open up the doors, ask the community to come in. Especially all the people who've always supported us — we have a lot of supporters, you know, of the work we're doing." "Everything was shut down, you know, libraries, anywhere where people would go, food banks, even our Loaves and Fishes. You could get the food at the takeout, but you couldn't even go to the bathroom there so there's nowhere for people to go to the bathroom. People were having to defecate outside and it was just beyond."

The song speaks from the perspective of someone who is living unhoused, asking for help but never being heard by the community around them. In another verse, Bickerton gives the perspective of the people working directly with the unhoused population — something the retired registered nurse did for many years in her work with the Ally Centre of Cape Breton.

Recorded at Lakewind Sound Studios, Bickerton has the song available for free on the website Bandcamp with hopes it will make some people stop and think about the issue.
