SYDNEY, N.S. — A 54-year-old man faces weapon and threat related charges after Cape Breton Regional Police responded reports that a person was in possession of a knife on Tuesday inside the provincial building on Prince Street in Sydney.
Police responded at 8:40 a.m. and located John Joseph Meade inside a room on the second floor, holding a knife. He was alone in the room, and officers contained the surrounding area while evacuating all occupants from the second floor to ensure no risk to public safety.Members of the emergency response team joined the scene and crisis negotiators successfully encouraged the man to surrender his knife to police and exit the room by 10:15 a.m. He was then arrested without incident.
