SYDNEY RIVER, N.S. — Concerned parents of students at Malcolm Munro Middle School are saying enough is enough. They are calling on school administrators ...

Video of the altercation was posted on social media and showed a student, the bigger one, stomping on the head of a smaller one after throwing them to the ground. Both students are in Grade 6. Her hope is that with enough signatures school administrators and the centre for education will see there is a need to hold a town hall and address parent concerns for student safety.

Seeing this call for change has made the student who was allegedly attacked on Sept. 13, Raven MacLean, and her mother Caitlin Howell feel they aren't alone. However, it has been a little overwhelming for MacLean who is leaving the public education system due to the attack and issues with bullying. An interview request with the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education was not granted. In a statement, they said they know of the incident.

And Howell feels the way the school handled the situation wasn't right and the three-day suspension the student who hurt her daughter received wasn't enough.A trans girl, MacLean loves reading, writing and pop star Melanie Martinez. She hopes to one day be a songwriter, singer and to maybe make a movie.

Thinking it was a threat that wouldn't be acted on, MacLean brushed it off. The next day during lunch the alleged attack happened outside the front of the school. Howell said when she received the call, she thought it wasn't as serious as it was due to the lack of information the school administration gave her.

"You get this pit in your stomach. The mom of the other student messaged me a few days later but I didn't know what to say back … I don't think she knows exactly what her son did."
