MacKinnon has children in the school and although they didn't witness the altercation, they were upset by it.Homophobic slurs, threats of violence: Cape Breton family feels schools not protecting student from bullying "Not everybody is comfortable with, let's say, reaching out to administration, reaching out to the school board, reaching out to politicians," MacKinnon said.
"We are aware of the incident you are referring to and can confirm the unacceptable behaviour is being responded to in accordance with the Provincial School Code of Conduct Policy. To protect the privacy of students, we do not comment on the specifics of incidents," said communications spokesperson Heather Calder in the statement.
Slight in figure like her mother, with a fashion sense that stands out in the crowd, MacLean had spoken to her mother about being homeschooled before. MacLean said the student who allegedly attacked her yelled slurs at her before pushing her and eventually forcing her to the ground. When she arrived to get MacLean, Howell was told her daughter would be right out and not buzzed into the school to speak to administrators.
