Highlighting the roster are big-name forward additions over the offseason Cam MacDonald and Cole Burbidge — expected to lead the offence alongside Cam Squires. Newcombe was named to the final roster despite his recent diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. While he won’t be with the team to start the season, the team said in a statement on Monday that he “will be a part of the team” and is hopeful he will return soon.Five Eagles defencemen are returning from 2022-23, including over-agers Zach Biggar and Conor Shortall .
Among the team's final cuts was goalie Rhyah Stewart. The 16-year-old stopper impressed at camp and was the first female to ever play a game with the team — a 24-save, no-goals-allowed performance on Aug. 25 against the Moncton Wildcats at Centre 200. Stewart is committed to the NCAA's University of Wisconsin Badgers.
