A potent winter storm is set to batter Cape Breton with up to 100 centimeters of snow, strong winds, and reduced visibility, prompting travel disruptions and warnings.

Parts of Cape Breton could see up to 100 centimeters of snow from Sunday into Monday. Other areas in Cape Breton could be in for 25-50 centimeters. A map of the Maritimes shows the areas that Cape Breton will receive the brunt of the winter storm and incoming winds. Parts of Cape Breton could see 100 centimeters of snow between Sunday and Monday, according to CBC meteorologist Ryan Snoddon.

Inverness and Victoria counties could see snowfall amounts in the range of 25-50 centimeters, but up to 100 centimeters is possible in the Cape Breton Highlands. Pictou and Antigonish counties can also expect snowfall in the range of five to 10 centimeters with winds between 70-90 km/h. Snoddon warns that visibility will be limited with the snow and blowing snow and that driving conditions could be impacted.The rest of the island could see up to 15 centimeters. Environment Canada has also issued a wind warning for Richmond and Cape Breton counties. Marine Atlantic has cancelled four Sunday departures and the service anticipates weather could affect two Monday morning crossings. Air Canada has issued a flight notification stating that flights arriving and departing to the airport in Sydney on Sunday may be impacted due to strong winds. As for the rest of the mainland, Environment Canada says there is a chance of flurries in Halifax, Amherst and Yarmouth on Sunday. Winter storm warning now in effect for P.E.I. on Saturda
