SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton actor Billy MacLellan doesn’t just wear his hometown pride on his sleeve, he wears it on the screen.
Before filming began, MacLellan emailed the showrunner and received their blessing for the character to wear one of his custom CBAF baseball hats. The first two letters stand for Cape Breton but the last two are open for interpretation. “I try to work in things as much as I can,” said MacLellan, who was born and raised in East Bay. “Like when I did my third episode of ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ I was playing this German blacksmith. At a certain point, they had me take out a hanky and wipe my brow and I brought a hanky that I ended up making from the Cape Breton tartan. Oh, and when I did ‘Nobody,” when I do my entrance I'm shaking a bottle with a protein shake and I have my CBAF sticker on that cup.
