Canada's Denis Shapovalov and Gabriel Diallo were both eliminated from the Australian Open in the second round. Shapovalov, ranked 25th in the world, lost to 16th seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in a thrilling three-set match, 7(7)-6, 7(8)-6, 6-2. Diallo, a 23-year-old from Montreal, battled hard against 19th seed Karen Khachanov of Russia but ultimately fell in four sets, 7(7)-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
While it was a disappointing end to the tournament for the Canadian men, there was a stunning upset in the men's draw as Learner Tien, a 19-year-old qualifier from California, became the youngest American man to reach the Australian Open's third round since Pete Sampras in 1990.
