Gen. Wayne Eyre, Canada’s chief of the defence staff, said the invasion was a threat to the broader international order and Canada would have to remain vigilant about defence.
Eyre and Defence Minister Anita Anand spoke with Senators at committee on Monday, just as new apparent atrocities were being revealed in Ukrainian cities such as Bucha as Russian forces withdrew over the weekend. “We have to be prepared for every eventuality because this is a very uncertain world. A number of, I would say very difficult scenarios have emerged from Ukraine and requires us to be all hands on deck with our allies.”“The lack of early success by the Russians is something that has surprised many of us, and it’s many of the basics that have caused this lack of success,” he said.
