Aidan Evans scores four goals as Canada dominates Bermuda 7-1 in CONCACAF qualifying, clinching a spot in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Canada 's under-17 men's national football team clinched a spot at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup with a dominant 7-1 victory over host Bermuda in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament on Sunday. Aidan Evans, a standout forward who plays for Fulham's under-18 team in England, led the charge with four goals, propelling Canada to a perfect 4-0-0 record in the five-team qualifying group. They outscored their opponents 28-2 throughout the tournament.
Canada found themselves trailing 1-0 early on, with Bermuda's Harlem Bean-Fox converting a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. However, the Canadians responded with seven unanswered goals, showcasing their attacking prowess. Evans netted one goal in the first half and then unleashed a hat trick in an eight-minute span during the second half. Andre Ali-Gayapersad, Kevin Khan, and Sergei Kozlovskiy also found the back of the net for Canada, who scored six goals in the second half alone. The victory secured Canada's qualification for the newly expanded U-17 World Cup, which will feature 48 teams and take place annually between 2025 and 2029. This marks Canada's eighth appearance in the tournament's history, but they are yet to win a match. Canada has scored only 11 goals and conceded 70 at the U-17 World Cup, highlighting their desire to improve their performance on the global stage. Coach Mike Vitulano, known for rotating his roster, made several changes throughout the qualifying round, with only captain Richard Chukwu, Aiyenero, and Kozlovskiy retaining their starting positions for the final match. This balanced approach aims to develop a deep pool of talent and ensure Canada is well-prepared for the challenges ahead in the U-17 World Cup
